As we near the end of the year and prepare for all of the festivities that come during the holidays, make sure you remember these three simple tips:
- Pack your grocery bags responsibly. Whether you choose to use a plastic, paper or reusable bag when shopping for holiday groceries, be conscious of how you use the space in your grocery bags. Try packing the items in your bag to maximize space and reduce the number of bags you use. This strategy also helps to make your bags easier to carry and more stable to transport. We have a great list of tips on how to properly pack your grocery bags here. And remember, if you’re purchasing an item with a handle or something that doesn’t require a bag, simply carry the purchased product out of the store by hand.
- Reuse your plastic bags as much as possible. I say it all the time and 90 percent of Americans already do this—reuse your plastic bags as much as possible. In addition to common reuses such as trash bags and bin liners, plastic bags can be used to pack and store holiday decorations, repurposed for arts and crafts projects, and can be taken back to the grocery store to be reused at checkout
- Recycle your wraps, sacks , nd bags. When you’re done reusing your plastic bags, remember to take them back to the grocery store for recycling. And keep in mind that plastic bags are not the only items that can be recycled. Other plastic films including the plastic around water bottle cases, paper towels and some other types of plastic packaging can also be recycled.
Happy Holidays, everyone!
